A bit of exploring the world of bookmarklets turned up a great one that I’d missed- a “Press This” for WordPress blogs, which makes a post in WordPress about the page you’re on.

Not all of the functions work from the iPhone (because you can’t select chunks of text), but I can post a link to another page; for example, the WordPress iPhone application.

This is the homepage for the WordPress iphone application. It’s what I’m using to write everything on this blog; it’s much easier and faster than pulling up the web page, and I can still use it when I’m offline (eg. on the tube.)

The bookmarklet can also post images from the page;

WordPress for iPhone

The catch is that you can only post images and links from one page at a time- each time you “press” a page, it starts a fresh post. This restriction is probably not entirely a bad thing for me; I have a tendancy to try to fit too many points into my blog posts, so this might help me to be a bit more concise and focussed. (Along with the fact that I can’t easily edit my posts- no cut and paste means no swapping round paragraphs etc. Something else I tend to spend too much time doing.)

If you’ve got a wordpress blog, you’ll find a link on your dashboard. (My last post talked about how to install bookmarklets to the iPhone by synching with the browser via iTunes.)

If you don’t have a WordPress blog… well, this probably wasn’t a very interesting post for you… But it seems to be the best starting point if you want to start blogging from a mobile.
